Skjal ehf. receives special recognition from Microsoft Iceland

Halldór Jörgensen, CEO of Microsoft Iceland, awarded the staff of Skjal ehf. special recognition from Microsoft for their important contribution to the Icelandic translation of the company's software and technological solutions. The award was made on Icelandic Language Day, held on 16 November 2008.

During the ceremony, Halldór spoke of the importance of developing knowledge, experience and, above all, a tradition of translating technological products and solutions into Icelandic. “Translations in this field are necessary to keep the language alive in times of rapid technological advances. If we fall asleep at the wheel, give in to temptation and use some other language to address technical issues, there is a danger that Icelandic will become diluted in years to come”, said Halldór.

In addition to translating the most recent versions of the Windows operating system and the Office software released by Microsoft this summer, Skjal has also translated a wide range of software solutions from Microsoft, including the Microsoft Dynamics business package, mobile phone solutions and other technical products.

“Skjal has done a terrific job. Their staff most certainly deserve this recognition. The translation of software such as Windows and Office is not just a difficult job, it is also extremely comprehensive, and it is vital that this work is performed professionally. Skjal has met all our expectations in this respect”, said Halldór.
